Renowned writer, film maker, artist and comedian Tim Ferguson chose to be Artful’s ambassador for a variety of reasons, but the competition’s inclusive eligibility tops his list.

“Anyone can have a go. The Artful Art Prize encourages people to freely express themselves and showcase their work for the world to see,” Tim says.

“People of all abilities are welcome to participate in Artful. So, any piece of art entered, no matter the style or materials is accepted on its own terms,” he says. “Artful is not a test, it is a free-to-enter competition where people can express themselves using their favourite medium of art.”

“Art can be a wonderful release of ideas and self-expression. The great thing about art is that it is for everyone.”

Tim has his own creative way of expressing himself and encourages others to do so as well.

“I have worked hard to adapt my style of art to include my occasional messiness! Without the skills required for technically proficient art, I’ve focused more on expressing the emotion and weirdness through colour with character and a little humour. But I like to express myself through my art and I would encourage you to give it a shot too!”

Artful’s only rules are that entrants are not professional artists, are living in Australia at the time of submission and that they enter their artwork in one of Artful’s 6 categories with a limit of one artwork per category. From when submissions open on 1 August until they close on 31 August, people can submit one artwork in one of Artful’s 6 categories or one artwork per category. Artwork will be judged during September with the Artful Art Prize winners announced in October. The prize winner in each category will receive a $1,000 gift card to an art supply store, as well as the opportunity to be mentored by an Arts professional.
